Warp: a collaborative project with Olivia Brandwein and collaborators for the ARC (Activate, Research, Create) residency program at A.P,E. Gallery in Northampton, MA.
July 4-10, 2022
Original project statement:
Warp is a community-engaged sculptural process by which artists Olivia Brandwein and Sarah Miller-Bartley will create an installation in the A.P.E Gallery space. The public is invited to work creatively with the physical properties of raw canvas through cutting, twisting, tying, and unraveling small squares of the material. These pieces will be painted and paired with mass-produced second-hand objects. Participants can expect to spend 20 minutes working on canvases, but can work over that if need be. The final exhibition will blur the boundaries between “fine art” materials and mass-produced objects by joining the two visually and physically. The work aims to inspire a sense of play, increase accessibility of art, and take on an expansive view of what art is and who can make it.
